San Marcos Academy Bears Lose Conference Game Against Veritas Academy

Sean Allen I Sports Editor

SAN MARCOS — The San Marcos Academy Bears (3-2, 0-1) lost their lone conference game to the Veritas Academy Defenders (5-0,1-0) 46-28 gaining 258 yards on the night.

It was a tight game in the 3rd quarter with the Bears before being halted on a stalled drive at the Defender’s 4-yard line. Later in the night, a costly turnover gave way to a short field leading to a larger hole resulting in a loss.

Sophomore Mitchell Howard completed 10 of 18 passes for 86 yards with a touchdown and an interception, also adding a rushing touchdown on the night.

Senior Gino Dipollino led the team on the ground with 13 carries for 68 yards.

Leading the way for the defense was Dipollino having a career-high 21 tackles. Senior Alex Davis and Junior Jacob Hammock both tallied 11 tackles on the night.

Despite the loss, it was a night to remember for Senior Julian Hernandez-Enriquez as he was crowned homecoming king on his Birthday.

The Bears will have their final home game of the season Friday at Ingram Stadium when they face off against the Holy Trinity Catholic Celtics (2-1).
