San Marcos Announces Park(ing) Day To Bring ‘Pop-up Park’

The destination will feature native plants, games, seating, bike parking, information, and education. This event is made possible through collaboration with The Bloom Bar, Stinky Dawg, Funboat Adventures, VeoRide, Sean Patrick’s Pub, Downtown Association…

A series of parking spaces in Downtown San Marcos will be transformed into one-day, interactive “pop-up parks” to celebrate International Park(ing) Day on Friday, Sept. 21 from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. on South LBJ Drive between MLK Dr. and San Antonio St.

Park(ing) Day is an annual, worldwide day where artists, businesses, and citizens transform parking spots and unused pavement into temporary public parks, art galleries, libraries, and other creative destinations. Whether you’re working downtown, grabbing dinner, or just taking a stroll through San Marcos, the temporary parklet can be a great place to enjoy the evening.

The destination will feature native plants, games, seating, bike parking, information, and education. This event is made possible through collaboration with The Bloom Bar, Stinky Dawg, Funboat Adventures, VeoRide, Sean Patrick’s Pub, Downtown Association, Bike SMTX, The San Marcos Discovery Center, and local volunteers.

Park(ing) Day SMTX is co-hosted by the City of San Marcos and Sustainable Placemakers SMTX. For information on temporary public park installations and Park(ing) Day visit: http://parkingday.org/.
