The City of San Marcos and San Marcos Main Street are hosting a ribbon-cutting ceremony for the Downtown Mobility Hub on Nov. 18 at 9:30 AM at 214 E. Hutchison. The public is invited to attend.
The Mobility Hub was first envisioned in 2017 by a Mobility Hub committee to beautify the downtown area and provide residents and visitors with a transit-oriented, community space for safe gathering.
Upon completion, it will incorporate bicycle parking and maintenance tools, a City bus stop, electric vehicle charging stations and wayfinding signage that will engage visitors with downtown attractions. Installations include covered picnic tables, high-visibility night lighting, native plants and a localized mural.
“The Mobility Hub is a glimpse into the reality of small space utilization and activation within our downtown,” said Mayor Jane Hughson. “By prioritizing this area for bicycles, pedestrians, public transit and electric vehicles we are taking a step toward a healthier, safer and more sustainable San Marcos.”
The City broke ground on this project in June 2019. The estimated cost of completion is $361,000. Rules regarding use of the space, including hours, will be posted at the Hub.
