The San Marcos Art League (SMAL) is joining forces with the San Marcos Main Street Program and the Downtown Association of San Marcos to host “Art Scared,” an art installation bringing Halloween to the windows of downtown buildings on the historic square. Artwork will be created by Elementary to High School-aged children on Saturday, Oct. 24, and will remain on display for the public to enjoy through the end of the month.
“Our purpose with this Halloween themed project is two-fold,” said Nancy Brown, SMAL’s San Marcos Art Center Manager. “We want to supplement the art curriculum for San Marcos area students and also encourage engagement in downtown San Marcos establishments.”
Painting areas will be separated by a six-foot space and participants will be separated by appointment time. Only participants and a guardian, teacher, or aide will be allowed in the designated area. Masks will be required and hand sanitizer will be available.
Art Scared is made possible through the generous support of numerous sponsors, including HEB, Greater San Marcos Partnership, Calaboose Museum, the San Marcos Main Street Program, the Mermaid Society, the Insurance Agency of San Marcos, Central Texas Ballet, Rick’s Lock, and Key, and SOAR.
