San Marcos Asks For Assistance With Water Quality Testing

The City of San Marcos Water Department is calling upon residents who are served by the City’s public water system to assist with an important public drinking water monitoring program.

The Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ) requires the City of San Marcos to conduct periodic water quality testing of its drinking water. The City’s water system is scheduled to conduct monitoring for lead copper during two six-month monitoring periods between July 1, 2015 and December 31, 2015 and between January 1, 2016 and June 30, 2016.

In order to complete the process the City needs assistance from City of San Marcos water customers who are willing to volunteer to take a one-time sample of their drinking water from either a kitchen or bathroom faucet during each of the two monitoring periods.

The drinking water samples will be picked-up by the City’s Water Quality Services Section and will be sent to a TCEQ approved laboratory. The drinking water samples will then be analyzed for lead and copper and results will be submitted to TCEQ to comply with State and Federal requirements.

The City will provide the sampling containers and instructions to those who wish to volunteer. The customers who participate will be notified of the results.
