The San Marcos Mural Arts and Main Street Programs are seeking local and regional artists to create a downtown mural gallery at 111 E. MLK Drive on the wall facing South LBJ Drive. The application deadline is June 16, 2021, at 11:59 p.m. CDT.
“This outdoor gallery will not only give eight area artists the ability to showcase their work to a larger audience but is also an opportunity to introduce different styles of art to residents and visitors alike,” said Innovation Manager Charlotte Wattigny.
The mural gallery is a Mural Arts Program initiative in partnership with the Main Street Program. Eight area artists will create original artwork on 8’x4’ panels to be mounted on the boarded-up side of the currently unoccupied building. In the event the building is sold or rented and reoccupied, the art panels can be removed and displayed elsewhere in the City.
Each artist will receive a stipend of $1,000 for materials and their labor on the project. Each panel will be painted at the artists’ homes or studios, then provided to City staff for mounting.
Full details, including submission guidelines and scope of the project, can be found in the call for artists posted online at www.sanmarcostx.gov/callsforartists.
