San Marcos Calls For Artists

The goals of this project are to beautify the park and to add to the growing collection of public art.

The City of San Marcos is seeking proposals from Central Texas area artists to design and create a mural at the Rio Vista Pool Restroom.

This mural will be an addition to a series of murals created throughout the city.  The murals are located in high-visibility areas that have been repeatedly tagged with graffiti.

The goals of this project are to beautify the park and to add to the growing collection of public art.

The Mural Art Committee, comprised of city staff from the Community Services Division and local artists, expect the project to create a mural that:

  • is colorful and inspiring for visitors
  • can be painted collaboratively with the artist and local children/adults.
  • is reflective of its surroundings and of the community values.

The committee will review proposals and solicit public input in May to receive citizen input.  The selected artist will be expected to complete the project during the month of June with the assistance of the public.

The artist stipend for this project is $3,700.  Materials for the project will be provided by the City of San Marcos. The application deadline is Monday, April 17, 2017, at 5 p.m.
