San Marcos Calls For Entries In Inaugural Hometown Holiday Shoebox Parade

The City of San Marcos will be hosting the inaugural SMTX Hometown Holiday Shoebox Parade on Thursday, Nov. 26, 2020, online at 2 PM.

The parade is dedicated to promoting community engagement, holiday spirit, and shopping local in the great city of San Marcos.

Individuals, children, families, businesses, civic organizations, and non-profits are all invited to participate by decorating a shoebox with theme of choice, submitting the online entry form, and turning it in at one of the drop off locations.

There is no cost to participate.

Drop off dates, times, and locations:

  • Thursday, Nov. 12 at the San Marcos Chamber of Commerce, 202 N. C.M. Allen Pkwy, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
  • Friday, Nov. 13 at the San Marcos Chamber of Commerce, 202 N. C.M. Allen Pkwy, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
  • Friday, Nov. 13 at the San Marcos Activity Center, 501 E. Hopkins, from 6 a.m. to 7 p.m., closed from 1 p.m. to 2 p.m.
  • Saturday, Nov. 14 at the San Marcos Activity Center, 501 E. Hopkins, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., closed from 1 p.m. to 2 p.m.

The San Marcos Public Library will be offering shoebox float packets available for front porch pick up during their modified hours of operation.

Details will be released at a later date for an “I Spy” parade watching competition for youth and adults.

  • So this is there answer to cancelling the holidays? This is how they are going to say "we tried."

    Again, if we are a community, we can shape our own holiday. They won't be able to stop us and the cops will be very reluctant to step in.

    So what do you want to do San Marcos? Is it time to get out and meet your neighbors or are you stick to craft time because you're still scared of a microbe that is some 1/200th the width of a human hair?

    I say we can do both. Those that want to get out and enjoy the holidays can and should. We can form our own celebration. That way everyone can enjoy the holidays to the best of their willingness.
