The City of San Marcos Parks and Recreation Department announced Tuesday that the San Marcos City Cemetery will join over 2,100 official locations across the country to participate in National Wreaths Across America Day on Saturday, Dec. 19, 2020.
This free, non-political, community event is open to everyone and honors the brave individuals who served to protect the freedoms of our country, demonstrates that they will never be forgotten, and brings the community together in patriotic commemoration.
In its second year of participating in this national event, the San Marcos City Cemetery has a goal to raise enough funds to place 542 remembrance wreaths on the gravesites of all veterans laid to rest there.
The City of San Marcos is participating and promoting this event as part of their November “Month of Service” dedicated to honoring our local veterans.
The public is invited to participate by volunteering and/or sponsoring a wreath.
Wreath sponsorship starts at $15 per wreath and volunteers are needed to assist with placing the remembrance wreaths on the gravesites on Saturday, Dec. 19, 2020.
Those interested in volunteering or sponsoring a wreath for the San Marcos City Cemetery are invited to visit www.wreathsacrossamerica.org/tx0916 to learn more.
