The San Marcos CISD Child Nutrition Services and all of its schools announced today a change to its policy for serving meals to children served under the National School Lunch Program and School Breakfast Program for the 2018-2019 school year.
San Marcos High School, Goodnight Middle School, Miller Middle School, Hernandez Elementary, Travis Elementary, Bowie Elementary, DeZavala Elementary, Crockett Elementary, Mendez Elementary, Bonham PK and Lamar Learning Center made the announcement Thursday morning, August 23.
According to Feeding America, in 2016, 19.4 percent of the Hays County children population are food insecure. In 2017, over 75 percent of San Marcos students qualified for free or reduced lunch and breakfast.
Schools qualifying to operate the Community Eligibility Provision (CEP) provide breakfast and lunch to all children at no charge and eliminate the collection of meal applications for free, reduced-price, and paid student meals.
This new approach reduces burdens for both families and school administrators and helps ensure that students receive nutritious meals.
