San Marcos City Council Approves 2020 Vote Centers

San Marcos — During Tuesday night’s meeting, the San Marcos City Council approved the established list of 2020 General and Special Election Vote Centers for early and election day voting in San Marcos.

The proposed vote centers were first approved by the Hays County Commissioner’s Court on Aug. 25.

Vote Centers is a term used to refer to the Countywide Polling Place Program defined in the Texas Elections Code. Hays County voters may cast their ballots at any polling place in the county.

This year, in order to provide additional access to voters, the Early Voting period was extended to allow almost an additional week of voting. Early voting will take place daily from Oct. 13 through Oct. 30.

Early voting locations in San Marcos include the Hays County Government Center (712 South Stagecoach Trail), Hays County Transportation Yarrington Building (2171 Yarrington Road), Live Oak Health Partners (401 Broadway Street #C), and the Texas State University Performing Arts Center (405 Moon Street).

Registered Hays County voters may vote at any polling place in the county, however, and are not restricted by the city in which they live.

Election day is Tuesday, Nov. 3.

Fifteen Vote Centers across the city will be open from 7 AM to 7 PM on Election day. Registered Hays County voters can vote at any of the 36 election day vote center locations throughout the county on Super Tuesday.

Voters can also vote at any of San Marcos’s four early voting locations as well as the other eight locations throughout Hays County.

To qualify to vote by mail, voters must have a disability, be 65 years of age or older, expect to be absent from the county, or be confined in jail.

To apply to vote by mail, fill out the application on this page and mail it to the Hays County Early Voting Clerk. Ballots must be received by Oct. 23 to be considered.
