San Marcos City Council Approves Updated Locations, Hours For Runoff Election

On Friday, the San Marcos City Council approved an amended the time and locations for early voting and election day for a runoff election.

The runoff will be held on December 8 for the position of Mayor and the remaining one-year of Council Member Place 5’s unexpired term.

According to the agenda, the council adopted an ordinance on Nov. 16 that called the runoff election and set location, dates, and times.

However, the council expressed concerns about the 8 AM to 5 PM hours on Monday thru Thursday during early voting.

Mayor Jane Hughson said residents will be able to vote at any location in the City of San Marcos but will not be able to vote at locations in the City of Kyle.

According to Hughson, the Elections Office will be running the City of Kyle and the City of San Marcos’s runoff elections separately.

EARLY VOTING LOCATIONS:

  • Centro Cultural Hispano – 211 Lee Street
  • Dunbar Center – 801 MLK Drive
  • Hays County Government Center – 712 S. Stagecoach
  • Hays County Transportation – Yarrington Building – 2171 Yarrington Road
  • Live Oak (Broadway) – Formerly County Health Department – 401 Broadway Street #C
  • *Texas State Performing Arts Center (no weekend EV – closed) – 405 Moon Street

SM Housing, First Baptist, and Sinai Pentecostal are unable to serve as EV Locations, according to the agenda.

ELECTION DAY LOCATIONS – (December 8, 2020 7 AM – 7 PM)

  • Centro Cultural Hispano – 211 Lee Street
  • Dunbar Center – 801 MLK Drive
  • First Baptist – 325 W. McCarty Lane
  • Hays County Government Center – 712 S. Stagecoach Trail
  • Hays County Transportation – Yarrington Building – 2171 Yarrington Road
  • Live Oak (Broadway) – Formerly County Health Department – 401 Broadway Street #C
  • SM Housing/CM Allen Homes on Sturgeon Drive – 820 Sturgeon Drive
  • Sinai Pentecostal – 208 Laredo Street
  • Texas State Performing Arts Center – 405 Moon Street

The new ordinance lists Early Voting hours are from 10 AM to 2 PM Saturday, Nov. 28, Nov. 29, 8 AM to 5 PM on Nov. 30 – Dec. 3, 6 AM until 6 PM on Friday, Dec. 4. Election Day, Dec. 8, Hours are 7 AM to 7 PM.

The ordinance was approved 6-0 with only one reading and Councilmember Jocabed Marquez unable to attend.
