Tonight, the San Marcos City Council will bring the discussion of the purchase of undeveloped land in the Edward’s Aquifer Recharge Zone back to the table.

In an email sent to subscribers this afternoon, the San Marcos River Foundation announced the organization had purchased two ranches in the Edward’s Aquifer Recharge Zone.
According to the email, SMRF has been working quietly for the last five years to preserve it as a conservation site.
Now the organization is asking the city of San Marcos for help to maintain the land and keep it from being developed. During the last city council meeting, council members discussed the item with concerns toward the city budget.
Council woman Melissa Derrick said despite the city’s “rather larger” budget, they didn’t have the funds to support the purchase.
Council woman Lisa Prewitt said, “It’s not just the acquisition of the land; it’s the maintenance of the land. We don’t have all those numbers.”
