Staff Reports
The San Marcos City Council will hold a regular meeting on Tuesday, Feb. 5, and consider several items such as a budget amendment, speed limits and name changes.
In their consent agenda, the council will consider “amending the City’s 2018-2019 Fiscal Year Budget to allocate up to $8,250,000 to be applied toward the costs for construction of the Rattler Electric Substation off of Clovis Barker Road near Leah Avenue.”
The agenda item is the second of two readings and is part of a “Contribution is Aid of Construction agreement with Urban Mining, which requires the construction of the new substation.”
According to the agenda, “the impact of anticipated growth in the area relative to the existing infrastructure indicated that a new substation would be needed to supply power to the immediate vicinity while also ensuring that the local system had full redundancy.”
The substation will be built adjacent to larger industrial loads; the property is bisected by a LCRA transmission line, which saves the City of San Marcos both transformation charges paid to LCRA and distribution line losses.
The budget amendment will add the construction of the substation to the adopted FY 2019 Community Improvement Project Plan.
In April 2017, the City Council approved a Chapter 380 Economic Development Incentive Agreement with Urban Mining.
City Council will hold two public hearings for residents to provide comments following a presentation by staff.
Council will hold a public hearing and consider “changing the name of Hunter Road between Wonder World Drive and West San Antonio Street to West Hopkins Street in order to eliminate multiple street names along the continuity of a single street.”
A public hearing will also be held regarding the submission of an application for low income housing tax credits to the Texas Department of Housing and Community Affairs for the proposed Riverstone Multifamily Housing Project.
In other news, City Council will consider the approval, on the first of two readings, a proposed speed limit change along several sections of Roadway in the Blanco Garden and Blanco Terrace Neighborhoods. If passed, the speed limit would be reduced from 30 Miles Per Hour to 25 MPH.
The regular meeting will begin at 6 PM following a work session.
