San Marcos City Council Votes To Enter Lease-Purchase Agreement

According to the agenda, the property is in an environmentally sensitive area; runoff from the land drains into Sink Creek.

The San Marcos City Council voted on Wednesday to enter a lease-purchase agreement with the Trust for Public Land to purchase 102 acres of undeveloped land.

The property is located near Country Estates and is currently owned by Texas State University. The lease-purchase agreement will break up the $1,270,000 price tag into three payments. The city will make three payments of $423,333 to purchase the property.

The lease-purchase agreement was item 13 under the consent agenda for Nov. 8^th’s meeting; there was no discussion over the topic before the vote.

Council Member Jane Hughson recused herself from the vote on item 13; she stated the property in question was close to land she owned. The consent agenda was passed 7 to 0. Item 13 passed 6 to 0 with Hughson’s recusal.

The purchase of the property continues the San Marcos City Council’s conservation efforts to protect land in environmentally sensitive areas from being developed.
