San Marcos Continues Reign As Most Affordable City In Austin Metro

On January 17, Zumper released its monthly Austin Metro Report for January 2019.

The report analyzes active listings in December 2018 across 13 metro cities in the Austin Metro Area to show the most and least expensive cities to live in and the cities with the fastest growing rents.

In December, the state median one-bedroom apartment’s rent was $939. Here is a brief breakdown of last month’s data.

Austin remains on top as the most expensive city with one-bedroom apartments rented for an average $1,220.

Brushy Creek and Cedar Park fell into second and third place respectively in the most expensive category. Brushy Creek’s average rent for a one-bedroom apartment is $1,160 and Cedar Park’s rents pay $1,110 a month for a one bedroom.

San Marcos held onto its reign as the most affordable city in the Austin metro with a median rent of $890 for a one-bedroom.

Wells Branch retained its place as second most affordable city with one-bedrooms priced at $970. Kyle came out in third with a median price of $980 for a one bedroom.

Wells Branch and Leander ranked first and second, respectively, in the fastest growing rent category.

Wells Branch rent rose 5.4 percent, and Leader climbed 4.9 percent.
