San Marcos High School Gets Hit With Vandalism And Damage

On Sunday, May 22, 2016, a large group of seniors from San Marcos High School entered the high school campus without permission at about 10:10 pm. What was initially intended to be a senior prank escalated to vandalism resulting in damage to school property. Seven district custodians were called in to work from midnight to 5:00 am to clean-up in order to have uninterrupted classes on Monday, May 23.

San Marcos High School staff, in collaboration with the San Marcos Police Department and district officials, have reviewed videotape of the incident and identified most of the students involved.

Through discussions with law enforcement officers and district administrators, the campus administration has decided not to pursue felony charges or citations.

Consequently, the participating students will be disciplined according to the Student Code of Conduct.

SMHS principal Kelli Lopez said, “I am deeply saddened for our campus and community because of the actions of a select group of individuals. This event is not indicative of our campus culture or our expectations for students. I am confident we will grow from this incident and restore the level of respect and dignity that makes San Marcos High School a great place to learn.”

  • Give the kids some more fun, instead of being more like a prison and maybe situations like this would not have happened.

  • Wonder who's kid was involved that they don't want to get in trouble. This is BS. There must be some form of restitution for the crime that they committed. We are not teaching our kids consequences at home these days and I guess we aren't in school either. This is troubling.

  • Well there it is, the stupidest thing I've read all day. Congrats Tony on the accomplishment!
