City facilities will remain closed to the public through the end of February but the City will offer the following virtual, drive-thru, and socially distanced special events for residents.
February Extended Events
• Book Reading Contest – Virtual. Free. Calling all book lovers! Join us for a reading contest during the month of February for adults 18+.
Readers will track their reading on the Reader Zone app. The top reader, determined by the person who logs the most pages, will win a San Marcos Public Library tote bag!
All other participants will be entered in a drawing, where one lucky reader will also win a library tote! *Anyone (18+) is welcome to participate, but you must be a San Marcos Public Library cardholder to win prizes.* Learn more at www.sanmarcostx.gov/library.
• Tales on the Trails – Socially distanced. Free. Styx Trail at Upper Purgatory Creek Natural Area, 1753 Valencia Way.
Family-friendly storybook trail walk featuring Back of the Bus by Aaron Reynolds. City partnership with Community Action, Inc. The story will be set up through February 28. Learn more at www.sanmarcostx.gov/youth.
• Wander Through Winter – Virtual. Free. Five-week challenge. A weekly challenge will be shared on the SMTX Community Services Facebook page Monday mornings through February 22.

Facilities remaining closed to the public through Feb. 28, 2021, include all buildings in the City Hall complex, the Activity Center, the Animal Shelter, Municipal Court, the Public Library, the Grant Harris Building, the San Marcos Tourist Information Center, the Discovery Center, and Utility Billing counters at the Municipal Building and the San Marcos Electric Utility Office.
Facilities are tentatively scheduled to reopen to the public on Monday, March 1, 2021. This timeline will be reevaluated later in February.
City staff will continue to be available to assist residents by phone, email, curbside services, and utility billing drive-thrus during regular business hours.
City offices will be closed for all services on Feb. 15, 2021, President’s Day.
City parks and natural areas will remain open to the public and patrons are encouraged to practice social distancing and wear a mask when around others not in their household.
