On January 10, the City of San Marcos announced it had installed three new pieces of art on traffic control boxes in the community.
The traffic boxes are located at three busy intersections throughout San Marcos. The works of art are part of the Traffic Control Box Art program, which aims to enhance San Marcos by adding works of art on surfaces that are often targets of vandalism.
In 2018, the city reached out to local artists to participate in the program. Winning designs were digitized and printed on vinyl wraps that were installed on the traffic control boxes.
“These pieces, by talented local artists, beautify our community and add color to the San Marcos streetscape,” said Ruben Becerra, Chair of the San Marcos Arts Commission.
“As the River Prays,” by Wimberley artist Mary Barton, is located on Centerpoint Road next to the Tanger Outlet entrance.
“Monarch Migration,” by former San Marcos artist Bejat McCracken, was installed at the intersection of McCarty Lane and Leah Drive.
San Marcos artist Dayann Pazmino’s “Besos Del Sol” was installed on Peques Street near the Texas State University commuter parking lot.
