San Marcos Police are investigating the death of a Texas State University student at the Millennium Apartments.

At about 11:35 a.m. Monday, Nov. 13, SMPD received a call at 1651 Post Rd (Millennium Apartments) in reference to a subject who was not breathing.

EMS and officers arrived and found Matthew McKinley Ellis (DOB 08/31/1997) unresponsive, and he was declared deceased at 12:28 p.m. by Judge Maggie H. Moreno.

Initial interviews with individuals on scene indicate that Ellis was a pledge for Phi Kappa Psi fraternity.  He was discovered deceased by friends a little after 11 a.m. Monday.

An autopsy has been ordered by Judge Moreno, and Ellis’ body was sent to the Travis County Medical Examiner’s Office.

Preliminary investigation indicates that alcohol may have been a factor in this death but investigators are awaiting toxicology results from the autopsy.

Ellis was an active student at Texas State University and lived on campus. His next of kin have been notified.

The Texas State Police Department has offered assistance in this ongoing investigation.
