The Children’s Park playscape was constructed in November of 1992 and has served thousands of San Marcos and Central Texas children over the last 25 years.
The City of San Marcos Parks and Recreation Departments is in the process of rebuilding the playscape at Children’s Park, and the community is invited to join the effort by purchasing a personalized fence picket to honor a family member, friend, or business.
The cost of the personalized picket is $25. Names are limited to 22 characters (including spaces). The pickets are made of cedar-colored plastic lumber with green lettering. The environmentally friendly plastic lumber is made from recycled milk jugs.
Order forms can be found online at www.sanmarcostx.gov/parks or at the Parks and Recreation Office, 401 E. Hopkins. Cash, check, and credit card is accepted. The deadline is March 1, 2018.
Project History:
The Children’s Park playscape was constructed in November of 1992 and has served thousands of San Marcos and Central Texas children over the last 25 years. Constructed through a community build process with both City funds and donations of money and materials. In 2013, due to the deteriorating condition and ADA accessibility, the playscape was added to the 10-year Capital Improvements Plan with design to be funded in 2016 and construction to happen in 2017. In February of 2017, City Council authorized the selection of Leathers and Associates for the design of the Children’s playscape renovation.
The proposed design features an all-inclusive design for children of all abilities. There will be two distinct play areas for children ages 2 to 5, and ages 5 to 12. The playscape will feature numerous components with increased accessibility focus, including the poured in place safety surface.
Children’s Park will be closed beginning on Jan. 15, 2018 and will remain closed until completion of the project later in the year.
