San Marcos Library Earns ‘Texas Achievement in Library Excellence Award’

“We have more than 44,000 library cardholders, and our staff works hard to provide the highest quality services and innovative programming for all ages, interests, and abilities.”

The San Marcos Public Library has been awarded the 2017 Texas Achievement in Library Excellence Award, a statewide  honor given by the Texas Municipal Library Directors Association.

“I am so proud of the San Marcos Public Library staff,” said Diane Insley, Library Director. “We have more than 44,000 library cardholders, and our staff works hard to provide the highest quality services and innovative programming for all ages, interests, and abilities.”

Libraries awarded this honor are required to meet a high level of excellence in their programming and services. This year, only 52 out of the state’s 548 public library systems earned this honor, putting the San Marcos Public Library in the top 10 percent of public libraries in the state.

During the year, the library circulated 489,545 items to 44,220 registered borrowers and recorded a total of 383,426 visitors.

“I’m especially proud of the variety of programs offered to the children and teens of San Marcos during the very busy summer reading program,” Insley said.

Attendance at library programs is at an all-time high. During the 2017 fiscal year, 51,064 people attended programs with 70% of those in attendance children and teens.

The San Marcos Public Library is open seven days per week for a total of 70 hours per week. To learn more about the San Marcos Public Library, please call 512.393.8200 or visit online at www.sanmarcostx.gov/library or on Facebook at www.facebook.com/sanmarcospubliclibrary.
