San Marcos Library To Host Dialogue Series, Computer Courses

Children ages 9 and up are invited to learn the basics of coding with Scratch at the library.

San Marcos Public Library

Join Texas State University instructors, students, and special guests at the San Marcos Public Library on Wednesday, Feb. 14 at 4:30 p.m. for a discussion about “When Lincoln Met Euclid” with Gary Taylor, musician and former math teacher. After 28 years as a high school and college math teacher, Gary has left the teaching field to pursue music full-time.

For over 20 years, the Philosophy Dialogue Series has provided a forum for the lively exchange and critical evaluation of diverse ideas. The Philosophy Dialogue Series University is free to attend and open to the public. Anyone may join the discussions at the public library any time during the series. The dialogues at the public library are on Wednesdays through April 11.

Children ages 9 and up are invited to learn the basics of coding with Scratch at the library. Learn to tell multimedia stories with this user-friendly software. Children should bring a parent to learn coding together and support future exploration. Families can register online at: www.sanmarcostx.gov/libraryregistration.

Scratch is a free, online, child-friendly coding program developed by MIT. The ability to code computer programs has become an important part of information literacy. Learning to code in Scratch teaches problem-solving, as well as design and communication skills. Plus, it is fun and engaging for all skill levels!
