This week, the San Marcos Public Library will host three events for residents and their children to enjoy. A variety of free programs are available to the community on a year-round basis; there are also seasonal programs, such as, the after school programs.
San Marcos Youths are invited to the Youth Program’s “Let’s Move!” event this Thursday, and residents of all ages can celebrate Shakespeare’s birthday with the Texas State University Ensemble who will perform a condensed version of Much Ado About Nothing on Saturday.
The library will also host a Growth Mindset for residents interested in research regarding the brain and learning.

• Youth Program Let’s Move!
WHAT: Get your body moving with stretches, music, and cooperative play! Ages 5-10.

Saturday, April 20
• Much Ado About Nothing
WHAT: Come celebrate Shakespeare’s birthday with the Texas State Shakespeare Ensemble as they present a condensed performance of Much Ado About Nothing.
WHEN: 3:00 PM to 4:30 PM
• Growth Mindset
WHAT: Is there something you have always wanted to do but are too afraid to try? Come learn how decades of research about the brain and learning can help adopt a growth mindset and unleash anyone’s full potential for achieving goals at any age. There are even ways to help your friends and loved ones be successful in their lives, too. Presented by Krystal Saenz.

Monday, April 22
• Child Sexual Abuse Prevention
WHAT: Adults can take proactive steps to protect children from sexual abuse. Using an evidence-informed approach, attendees will be provided with simple and practical actions to prevent, recognize, and react responsibly to child sexual abuse. Presented by staff of CASA of Central Texas. Register online, by phone, or in person at the library.

Tuesday, April 23
• Puppet Show! The Tortoise and the Hare
WHEN: 10 AM, 11 AM, & 7 PM
• Teen Writing Club
WHAT: Do you love to write and want to improve? Come join our club to help kick start your creativity! Ages 12-17.
WHEN: 6:00 to 7:00 PM
• Poetry in the Cemetery
WHAT: Celebrate the dead through one of humanity’s highest arts: poetry. Community members are encouraged to share a favorite poem or one of their own poems, or just to come and listen. Event will be led by E. D. Watson, poet and library staff member, at the San Marcos cemetery.

Wednesday, April 24
• El Camino Real de los Tejas the Spanish Royal Roads of Texas
WHAT: The El Camino Real de los Tejas is a National Historic Trail extending from Laredo to Nacogdoches. It was a thoroughfare from the 18th-century Spanish colonial era in Spanish Texas.
Hugh Campbell will share his love and extensive knowledge of the significance of the El Camino Real in the settlement, development, and history of Texas. As an extra bonus, Hugh will provide attendees with an annotated map for a driving tour of the trail in Hays County along with a list of relevant and available books from the library.
