San Marcos Man Robbed During Sneaker Deal

A San Marcos man was robbed, sprayed and threatened with a baseball bat at the Tanger Outlet Mall Saturday.

According to San Marcos Police, the victim had agreed to meet someone around 8 p.m. Saturday for a private sale of Adidas Yeezy shoes. Police said the victim was prepared to pay $500 dollars for shoes.

Adidas Yeezy are a pair of sneakers by Adidas designed in collaboration with Kanye West, which can run anywhere from $1,000 to $4,000 from retailers.

Around 8 p.m. the individual called the victim and asked to move the meet time to 10 p.m. The victim was approached by a black male and a Hispanic female, according to SMPD Sgt. Jehu Derrickson.

The victim said the unidentified male was swinging a baseball bat as he came around a vehicle; then one of the suspects used pepper spray on the victim. The victim ran away after he heard the suspects talking about a gun.

Police have not found any indication on how the deal was set up or how the buyer and seller found each other. No arrests have been announced, and the victim was not identified by police.
