San Marcos Marathon Is Officially Certified

San Marcos Marathon is Officially Certified and a Tri-County Course

Houston, TX—–Tom McBrayer, USATF/RRTC Certifier announced this week that the new course for the 1st Marathon in San Marcos has been certified.

Certification means several things. The most important issue is that marathon runners from the USA and other countries, can participate in the ‘Run for the Americas’ Marathon and be eligible for other marathon invitations.

This means if their time for that year is under the maximum time allowed for the Boston or New York City or London Marathons, the runner is qualified to go.

With having course certification it gives San Marcos the opportunity to be able to draw in marathon runners from all over North & South America.

The certified course was handled by San Marcos Alumni and former President of the SMHCC, Richard Garza, and what started out as one week of measuring, which is what Moe Johnson of Moe’s Better-half Marathon said, ended up taking over a month of measuring and re-measuring. And this was in August which was the hottest time of the year.

The course start & finish is at the corner of McCarty Lane and Leah Avenue, which just opened up this year.

Leah Avenue is between the Embassy Suites & SMCC and the new Amazon Fulfillment Center.

The marathon goes from McCarty Lane to—Old Bastrop Rd—Center Point-Francis Harris Ln—Watson Ln—Soechting Ln—York Creek Rd and continues through Guadalupe County, Comal County, with the majority of the course in Hays County.

The projections by the San Marcos Rattler Alumni Association is to market the race to North & South America, with a goal to have 20k runners by 2020.

The Rattler Alumni Association foresees this marathon drawing people from all around the world, coming to San Marcos, TX to run a certified marathon, and shop at the Largest Outdoor Outlet Mall in the USA, and see what one of the top 50 Retirement Cities in America looks and feels like.
