On Tuesday, the San Marcos City Council approved an agreement with Martindale to settle extra-territorial boundary issues.
Council voted unanimously to authorize the Mayor or City Manager to execute the agreement on behalf of the city after months of negotiations.
The agreement identifies areas each city will release from its previously claimed ETJ and provides for payments to be made by the City of San Marcos to the City of Martindale over the next 30 years from tax revenues derived from 161 acres of the S.M.A.R.T. Terminal Project.
The agreement was approved by Martindale on January 21, but a final copy of the agreement was not available at the time of posting for San Marcos City Council’s regular meeting on the same date.
“I am happy to report that we have approved our agreement with the City of Martindale regarding realigning their ETJ line allowing us to annex all of the San Marcos Air, Rail and Truck Terminal with a creative agreement that provides benefit for both sides,” Mayor Jane Hughson said.
Hughson went on to thank Martindale’s mayor, staff, city council and everyone else involved in the agreement’s development.
Council members expressed their gratitude not only for the work of the Mayor of Martindale in resolving the matter but also Mayor Jane Hughson’s efforts to resolve the issue.
