San Marcos Mermaids Set To Be Unveiled This Weekend

Much like the guitars in Austin and the cowboy boots in Wimberley, the Mermaid March will a feature a single form, developed by the Commission for interested artists to reimagine and then display throughout the San Marcos community.

The statues of the Mermaid March will be unveiled Saturday, Sept. 16 at 3 p.m. during the Mermaid Aqua Faire at San Marcos Plaza Park, 201 N. CM Allen. Mayor Pro Tem Jane Hughson will be the keynote speaker.

The San Marcos Arts Commission selected ten artists earlier this year to paint the first in a series of mermaid statues to be placed throughout San Marcos as part of the Mermaid March: April Layman, Cheryl Latimer, Darin Wood, Diana Weems, Dough Hiser, Grace Rowland Park, Jamie Kimmel Shelton, Lauren Hofmann, Malachy McKinney, and Morgan Haberle Egan.

The artists will be recognized for their creativity and their artistic excellence.

Much like the guitars in Austin and the cowboy boots in Wimberley, the Mermaid March will a feature a single form, developed by the Commission for interested artists to reimagine and then display throughout the San Marcos community. The end result will provide residents of, and visitors to, San Marcos with another opportunity to enjoy and interact with public art.
