San Marcos Places 2nd on Conservation Scorecard

The City of San Marcos has placed second in a ranking of water conservation efforts among Texas water utilities.

The Texas Water Conservation Scorecard was released by the Texas Living Waters Project, a partnership of National Wildlife Federation, Sierra Club, and Galveston Bay Foundation.

The Scorecard is an evaluation of more than 300 utilities based on their level of effort to advance water conservation and, to a lesser extent, on their achievements in that area.

Scoring criteria included a utility’s compliance with water conservation planning and reporting requirements, its record on water loss and meeting targets for water use reduction, outdoor watering limits, and rate-based incentives for efficient use of water.

The top five scores among large and medium-size utilities belonged to:

  1. City of Austin (90)
  2. City of San Marcos (85)
  3. City of Frisco (82)
  4. City of San Angelo (81)
  5. City of Lewisville (80)

More information on the Scorecard can be found at www.texaswaterconservationscorecard.org/
