San Marcos Planning & Zoning Commissioner Announces Bid For City Council Place 1

Staff Reports

On Saturday, July 13, Mark Gleason announced his intentions to run for City Council Place 1 in the November 2019 election.

He and his wife, Ruah, have owned a home in Blanco Gardens neighborhood for nearly 20 years. He has served on the San Marcos Planning and Zoning Commission since March 2017.

Gleason currently serves as Vice-Chair of the commission. His term expires in February 2020.

In his announcement, Gleason said he wants to protect San Marcos’s beautiful rivers and green spaces, promote multi-modal sustainable transportation, spend tax dollars wisely, attract new jobs and economic development and preserve the history and heritage of the San Marcos community.

“As Vice-Chair of the Planning and Zoning Commission, I have voted for zoning to bring traditional single-family housing and an economic development project that is expected to bring over 2,000 jobs in the upcoming years,” Gleason said. “I also voted for the new Land Development Code that provides more options for homeownership and workforce housing. I supported rental registration initiatives. I’m asking for the opportunity to bring my proven record and unique perspective to our City Council.”

City Council Place 1 is currently held by Council Member Lisa Prewitt.

Gleason said, “With your support, I promise to work to protect our community while enhancing opportunities for all of the people of San Marcos for generations to come.”
