Yesterday, San Marcos Police received a request to assist in locating a vehicle that had failed to stop during a New Braunfels Police Department traffic stop.
Shortly after, SMPD officers responded to a call about a major accident near Posey Road with a vehicle matching the description of the fleeing car.
When officers arrived, the suspect was running toward the Toyota Dealership, and there was information he was possibly armed with a handgun. Officers quickly informed the Toyota Dealership of the situation and set a perimeter.
SMPD quickly dispatched a drone and were able to locate the subject, and officers apprehended Joshua Rene Leal (03/27/1987) of Devine, TX as he crossed IH-35 on foot, stopped traffic, and attempted to force his way into a stopped vehicle.
Leal’s car was found to have been stolen from San Antonio, but there was no handgun found on his person. New Braunfels Police took custody of Leal, and he is being charged with Evading Arrest of Detention with Vehicle and Unauthorized Use of Vehicle.
