San Marcos Police Department Arrests Two In Connection To First Homicide Of The Year

San Marcos Police are investigating a homicide that occurred early this morning at a local apartment complex.

UPDATE: The San Marcos Police Department have arrested two in connection with the death of Matthew Rodriguez, Jr.

Jacob and Jason Portier were arrested and booked in Hays County Jail Thursday morning around 7:30 AM on charges of capital murder by terror threat.

According to the City of San Marcos, the two suspects are brothers, who have been most recently living in Round Rock; city officials said the brothers are familiar with the San Marcos area.

Both men are being held at Hays County Jail on a $750,000.00 bond.

The investigation into the homicide is currently ongoing. No further details will be released at this time.

In 2011, Jacob Portier was arrested for deadly conduct by Hays County Sheriff’s Office.

San Marcos Police are investigating a homicide that occurred early this morning at a local apartment complex.

At 2:24 a.m. emergency personnel were called to the parking lot of Park North Condos on the 1600 block of Aquarena Springs Drive. The complainant reported that a person was lying in the parking lot unresponsive. Police officers and EMS arrived soon after and found a deceased male with a gunshot wound to the chest.

The victim has been identified as Matthew Jacob Rodriguez, Jr. (DOB 10/12/1990) of San Marcos.

Justice of the Peace Maggie Moreno pronounced Rodriguez deceased at the scene. He was transported to the Travis County Medical Examiner’s office for autopsy.

This is the first homicide in San Marcos this year. There were five homicides in the City in 2017.
