San Marcos Police Department Expansion Could Include Offices, Shooting Range

The city of San Marcos is seeking a general contractor to build additions and perform facility renovations on its police department building.

The project scope includes the construction of 5,215 square feet of additions and 18,155 square feet of renovations to the existing San Marcos Police Department facility.

The project also includes the construction of a 4,471-square-foot SWAT building to house oversized vehicles and other general storage.

The procurement allows for several alternate scopes that include additions for office space. Another option allows for replacement of interior chilled and heating water piping, underground exterior chilled piping, an exterior chiller and associated chilled water pumps, or six main building air handling units.

A fourth alternate would include replacement of the main building switchboard panel, sub-panels, and transformers while a fifth option is a 25-yard extension of the department’s shooting range.

The estimated project total including alternates is $10.59 million with all alternates totaling $2 million. All work must be substantially completed within 537 days of the notice to proceed.

Deadline for competitive sealed proposals is April 23. A preproposal conference and site tour will be from 2 to 4 PM April 1 through video or virtual-conferencing.
