UPDATED: San Marcos Police Department Issues Arrest Warrant For SMCISD Teacher For Inappropriate Relationship With Student

UPDATE: As 3:45 PM, Madden has turned himself in to Travis County authorities.

On Feb. 22, the City of San Marcos announced an arrest warrant had been issued for a San Marcos Consolidated Independent School District San Marcos High School teacher for an inappropriate relationship with a student.

According to the City of San Marcos, on Jan. 24, 2019, at approximately 6:25 PM, a San Marcos police officer was dispatched to San Marcos High School for a report of an inappropriate relationship between a teacher and student, a second-degree felony.

The officer was advised by the athletic director and assistant principal that two students notified a coach of an inappropriate relationship between Ian Michael Madden (09/09/1991) and a 17-year-old female student.

Madden is a history/government teacher and boys basketball coach at the high school.

Once notified, SMCISD started an investigation and contacted SMPD. During the investigation and forensic interview, the student admitted to several incidents of sexual intercourse over a period of two months.

In a separate interview with Madden, he also admitted to the sexual intercourse.  Numerous text messages and photos of the two were located on the victim’s cell phone that was seized in the investigation.

Madden was suspended from employment on 1/25/2019.  An arrest warrant was issued for Madden on 02/15/2019.

According to the city, he has retained an attorney, Willie Schmerler, but has yet to turn himself in to authorities.
