UPDATE 11:21 AM: San Marcos Police Investigate Homicide Near Veterans Parks And A String Of Armed Robberies At The Cedars Apartments

On Tuesday, the City of San Marcos Police Department (SMPD) officials released the identity of the victim in Saturday’s homicide as Charles William Lauria II. (12/30/1961).

The victim’s name was previously being held until next of kin was notified. This continues to be an active investigation and anyone with information should contact Detective Michael Casillas at (512) 754-2202.

San Marcos Police Officers are investigating two incidents that have occurred in the last week. A suspect in one of the incidents has been arrested. 

Homicide Near Veterans Park

The City of San Marcos Police Department (SMPD) is investigating a homicide that occurred over the weekend near Veterans Park.

At approximately 10:42 AM on Saturday, Aug. 24, SMPD patrol was dispatched to the area of 320 Mariposa St., otherwise known as Veterans Park, after receiving a report of a deceased person found in a nearby drainage creek.

After a search of the area, the officers located a deceased male and his nearby campsite approximately 30 feet away, up the embankment. The victim was found to have sustained stab wounds to the upper torso.

The victim’s identity will not be released until next of kin has been notified. This is an active investigation and anyone with information should contact Detective Michael Casillas at (512) 754-2202.

Police Arrest Aggravated Robbery Suspect

On Friday, Aug. 23, John Edward Muzquiz (09/23/97) of San Marcos, was arrested in Guadalupe County in relation to a string of armed robberies on Aug. 15 and Aug. 22 at The Cedars Apartments, 1101 Leah Ave.

On Thursday, Aug. 15 at approximately 10 PM, City of San Marcos Police Department (SMPD) officers responded to two separate reports of aggravated robbery at The Cedars Apartments.

Detectives were able to identify Muzquiz as the suspect and issued two warrants for Aggravated Robbery.

On Thursday, Aug. 22, SMPD again received numerous calls about robberies occurring at The Cedars Apartments, one occurring at approximately 10:43 p.m. and the second at approximately 10:47 PM. Both victims reported a Hispanic male with facial tattoos approaching with a gun. SMPD also identified Muzquiz as the suspect in these robberies.

Muzquiz is being held in Hays County Jail with two counts of Aggravated Robbery for the Aug. 15 incidents. He is awaiting further charges.
