The San Marcos Police Department is warning the public of a phone scammer posing as a police officer and demanding money to clear a fake warrant.

Multiple residents have reported that they were called from 512.566.7496 this morning.

The caller identified himself as “Officer Robert Duggin,” badge #486, and told the residents that a warrant had been issued for their arrest for failure to appear for a jury summons.

The scammer further told the citizens that this was for a missed appearance in the court of “Hays County Municipal Judge Elizabeth Walker.” The caller then demanded the citizens go to CVS and purchase a prepaid card that could be transmitted to the court immediately.

The City of San Marcos will never call a customer seeking payment over the phone. Never give credit, debit, or gift card information over the phone to someone unfamiliar who asks you for this information. People who suspect they are dealing with a scammer should immediately hang up.

People who have given money to the scammer should call the San Marcos Police Department at 512.753.2108.
