The San Marcos Planning and Zoning Commission held a public hearing and considered a request for a zoning change for a storage facility on Rattler Road.
The subject property is located at 2835 Rattler Road and is subject to a development agreement.
The 3.62-acre property is currently located outside of the city limits, and an annexation request is being considered concurrently with the zoning request.
The development agreement for this property was approved by City Council at their regular December 2, 2020 meeting. The development agreement stipulates the following:
Commissioner Betsygail Rand said she felt there was something “a little bit off-putting” about building a self-storage facility next to the high school.
“There is so much empty space out there that I don’t think that’s reason enough to tank it,” Rand said. “But where my head goes, ‘You have bored kids and a storage facility,’ or you have to essentially make it look like a prison with razor wire and things to keep bored kids from getting into it. Both of those seemed antisocial in some way that rubbed me a little bit of the wrong way.”
Commissioners voted 7-1 with commissioner William Agnew voting against.
