San Marcos P&Z To Hold Public Hearing, Consider Recommendation On Workforce Housing Strategic Action Plan

On Tuesday, the San Marcos Planning and Zoning Commission is slated to hold a public hearing and consider a recommendation on the Workforce Housing Task Force Strategic Housing Action Plan.

In 2018 and 2019, the San Marcos City Council identified workforce housing as one of its five strategic initiatives.

A workforce housing task force was formed to aside in developing a strategic housing action plan to help address housing needs in San Marcos.

The task force held 15 meetings and workgroups and 2 open house events to engage the community and incorporated the feedback from residents in their final draft.

According to the agenda, the total citizen participation in the plan includes 749 individuals through community conversations with over 38 different organizations, 200 written comments and 100 stories from the community.

The Strategic Housing Action Plan identifies four goals, six strategies and twenty-three actions to address the city’s housing needs.

Commissioners will receive a presentation before they discuss and consider their official recommendation for city council on the plan.

In other news, commissioners will consider a request by James Ingalls for a zoning change from Future Development and Character District – 4 to Character District – 3 for approximately 192.951 acres at 2357 Redwood Road, Hays County, Texas.

According to the agenda, the majority of the project is currently located outside the city limits in the extraterritorial jurisdiction. Approximately, 6.5 acres is located within the city limits and was zoned CD-4 in 2018.

The property owner is requesting this small portion zoned CD-4 be rezoned CD-3. The city of San Marcos will provide water and wastewater to the property, according to agenda, and the property owner will be responsible for extending water and wastewater facilities through the site.

The San Marcos Planning and Zoning Commission convenes at 6:00 PM in the San Marcos City Council chambers at City Hall.
