San Marcos Regional Animal Shelter To Hold Community Meetings On “Pawsitive Outcomes Implementation Plan”

The San Marcos Regional Animal Center will host several public meetings to allow the community to weigh in on the Shelter’s “Pawsitive Outcomes Implementation Plan” over the next few weeks.

Three upcoming public meetings have been announced to help develop a plan to adhere to it’s new initiative to make the SM Regional Animal shelter a “no-kill shelter.” 

The center aims to reach a 90 percent live outcome rate within the next five years. According to the city’s website, the Shelter will hold two meetings at the San Marcos Activity Center to allow members of the community to weigh in on the initiative; the meetings will be held at 6 PM on March 21 and April 25 at the Activity 

Residents can also attend a meeting at the Kyle City Council Chamber at 6 PM on April 10. All Hays County Residents are welcome to attend.   

The Pawsitive Outcomes Implementation Plan Committee was formed following the San Marcos City Council’s direction to staff on December 12, 2018, to develop a plan to achieve a 90 percent live outcome rate at the San Marcos Regional Animal Shelter.

A committee comprising of 20 members was formed with representatives from various groups and organizations within Hays County to identify pros and cons of various components that come up during shelter operations and plan development.

A draft implementation plan is scheduled to be presented to City Council for discussion and to provide further direction in June 2019.
