San Marcos Releases Updates On Officers, Donation And More

The City of San Marcos released the following updates regarding the officers and their families after Saturday night’s fatal shooting. 

Wounded Officers in Stable Condition

The two officers wounded in the line of duty Saturday evening continue to be hospitalized and remain in stable condition.

Interim Police Chief Bob Klett said both Officer Franco Stewart and Officer Justin Mueller are showing signs of recovery as they were able to communicate with loved ones yesterday.

Fundraisers Organized For Putnam’s Family, Stewart, and Mueller

Donation funds have been set up for the officers and their families, as well as for fallen Officer Putnam. All donations are tax-exempt.

Abbott Sends Prayers, Encourages Honoring Officer Putnam

Texas Governor Greg Abbott issued a letter stating flags in San Marcos and across Texas may be lowered immediately to honor fallen San Marcos Police Officer Justin Putnam.

According to Gov. Abbott, “flags of the State of Texas and the United States of America in the City of San Marcos may be lowered immediately to half-staff in honor of the life and public service of San Marcos Police Officer Justin Putnam who was killed in the line of duty. Flags may remain at half-staff until the day of his final internment… Other cities, counties, and political subdivisions may also lower flags during the same period of time.”

The letter was received by San Marcos Mayor Jane Hughson yesterday, April 20.
