San Marcos seeks artist for new mural

The San Marcos Arts Commission is looking for artists to design and paint a mural on an exterior wall of Papa John’s Pizza located at 216 E. Hopkins Street. The project is part of the City’s Mural Arts Program.

“The new mural will beautify San Marcos and deter graffiti in highly visible areas of our community,” said Arts Coordinator Trey Hatt. “We invite artists from our local area and around the country to submit designs for this latest addition to our public art inventory.”

The theme for the new mural is “Innovation.” Designs should be colorful, inspiring, and reflective of community values. Artists and artist teams with prior experience in large-scale artworks and public art are preferred.

The artist stipend for the project is $8,000 including travel and lodging. Paint, brushes, and other materials will be provided by the City of San Marcos.

The application closes Monday, April 5 at 5 p.m. An artist will be selected by April 23. For more details and submission guidelines, visit www.sanmarcostx.gov/callsforartists.
