San Marcos To Celebrate 35th Annual 4th of July SummerFest
The 35th annual SummerFest will open at 6 p.m. on July 4 at San Marcos Plaza Park, 201 N. CM Allen Parkway, featuring live music, food booths, vendors, children’s activities and fireworks.
Festivities kick off at 6 p.m. with live music by Wyzer at the park’s stage. Children’s costume contest registration will begin at 6:30 p.m., and Children’s Parade line-up will begin at 6:50 p.m. Registration will be held in front of the Old Fish Hatchery Building. The parade will begin promptly at 7 p.m. Participants will parade through the park, and winners will be announced in a ceremony that begins at 7:30 p.m.
Costumed kids will be judged in “most patriotic” and “cutest divisions” with prizes awarded in each category and a “best overall” named. The costume competition has been growing steadily over the last several years and is a highlight of the event.
The David Ybarra Band will provide musical entertainment on the park’s stage following the parade. Additionally, there will be a children’s play area, local vendors, food and activity booths, and of course a phenomenal fireworks display. This year’s fireworks exhibition is scheduled for 9:30 p.m. SummerFest is a free, community wide event for the whole family to enjoy.
SummerFest is sponsored by the City of San Marcos with assistance from the San Marcos Lions Club, San Marcos Convention and Visitor Bureau, HEB, Pennington Cakes and a host of corporations, organizations and individuals.
Free parking for SummerFest will be available at the San Marcos Activity Center (501 E. Hopkins Street) and Texas State University Strahan Coliseum parking lot (Corner of Aquarena Springs Drive and Charles S. Austin Drive).
