The San Marcos Parks and Recreation Department announced that Children’s Park Playscape will be closed every Thursday until further notice for deep cleaning and disinfecting beginning Thursday, Oct. 22 from 7 AM to 5 PM.
The park will remain open to bicycle and pedestrian activity during the playscape’s closure.
“Due to the popularity and increased use of Children’s Park Playscape we’re working hard to disinfect and clean the equipment every Thursday, weather permitting,” said Jamie Lee Case, Assistant Director of Parks and Recreation. “We don’t have the staff required to regularly disinfect all 15 playscapes across our community, so it’s important that park-goers remain diligent in following CDC guidelines, local and state-mandated regulations, and work together to continue to stop the spread of COVID-19.”
Signage remains posted at all city facilities and parks requesting visitors to follow CDC guidance, including wearing a mask and maintaining at least six feet of distance from those who do not reside in the same home.
Anyone experiencing COVID-related symptoms should not enter a facility, park, or recreational area.
Adjusted park hours remain 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. and park patrons are encouraged to participate in active recreational activities such as swimming, kayaking, canoeing, walking, running, and general exercise.
In a continued effort to assist with social distancing, temporary fencing will remain in the parks to limit access to park amenities such as picnic tables and pavilions.
BBQ grills and pop-up shelters are not permitted since picnic table sites are unavailable. All posted park rules will be enforced and may be viewed at http://sanmarcostx.gov/parkrules.
Park restrooms in City Park, Children’s Park, and William & Eleanor Crook Park will be open until 8 p.m. and will continue to be cleaned twice daily.
The City will continue to follow county and state health department COVID case tracking data, as well as hospitalizations, to assess the local health situation, public compliance with facility and park rules, and local pandemic indicators.

While I appreciate them doing this on a Thursday during the workday... This is a complete waste of time & resources.
Sunlight is the best disinfectant. -- Not just a political slogan. Its why the parks should never have closed in the first place.
