The City of San Marcos will hold a ribbon cutting ceremony for the gateway sign at the northeast corner IH-35 and SH 80 Friday, June 3 at 8:15 a.m.
The event will celebrate the completion of the gateway sign, which features rockwork, landscaping, and backlit metal letters forming the City’s logo.
The project was made possible by prize money associated with the Governor’s Community Achievement Award presented to San Marcos in 2012.
Every year, the GCAA recognizes 10 Texas communities for their best grassroots environmental programs. The winners receive a share of landscaping prize money, to be used in the construction of a beautification project within their community. The projects are to be constructed on state rights-of-way and conform both to the winning city’s aesthetic expectations and stringent standards of safety, design and maintenance laid out by the Texas Department of Transportation.
