San Marcos To Host Kick Off Meeting For The Travis Street Project

The City of San Marcos Engineering and Capital Improvements Department will host a community meeting to kick off the Travis Street construction project designed to alleviate local drainage issues in the Heritage Neighborhood area. 

The meeting will be held at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 26 at Dunbar Recreation Center, 801 MLK Drive.

The meeting will include a brief presentation and representatives from the design engineering firm, Freese and Nichols, and members of the construction team will be on hand to answer questions. Cox Commercial Construction of Baytown, Texas is the contractor and construction is expected to begin March 4.

This project precedes the Hopkins Street – Bishop to Moore Reconstruction Project, and will provide drainage improvements and a drainage outfall, with a water quality feature, into Purgatory Creek on the Dunbar Recreation Center property.

The water and wastewater lines will be replaced along Armstead, San Antonio and Travis Streets. Upon completion of construction, the roads will be resurfaced with new pavement.

Telecommunication companies will be working on Hopkins Street between Bishop Street and Moore Street to complete transfers to new poles. 

This is a continuation of the work done by San Marcos Electric Utility late last summer and fall in preparation for the overall Hopkins Street Improvements scheduled to begin December 2019.

Construction cost for the Travis Street project is approximately $3 million and construction is anticipated to be completed by December 2019, weather permitting.
