San Marcos To Host New City Management Meet & Greet

The public is invited to attend a community meet and greet with new executive staff from the City of San Marcos on Thursday, Jan. 23, from 5 to 6:30 p.m. in the Spring Lake Ballroom at the Embassy Suites, 1001 E. McCarty Ln. 

Newly appointed Assistant City Managers Stephanie Reyes and Joe Pantalion will be present, along with Director of Public Safety Chase Stapp, to meet and visit with the community during this come-and-go event.

“We’re excited for our residents, business owners, students and organizational leaders to have the opportunity to meet our newly appointed executive team,” said City Manager Bert Lumbreras. “These are exciting times for San Marcos as we move forward in 2020 to achieve the Council goals and initiatives for our growing community.”

Stephanie Reyes

Reyes has spent the last 18 years in various capacities within the City organization and most recently served as Chief of Staff.  Prior to that, she served as Assistant Director of Human Resources and as Assistant to the City Manager. 

She will continue to oversee Administrative Services including the City Manager’s office, Finance, Human Resources, Information Technology, Communications/Intergovernmental Relations, along with Parks & Recreation and Destination Services. 

Reyes holds a Masters of Public Administration from Texas State University and is a graduate of San Marcos High School. She was permanently appointed to this position in December after serving five months as Interim Assistant City Manager.

Joe Pantalion

Pantalion most recently served as the Assistant City Manager for the City of Richardson. Prior to that, he worked for the City of Austin for 22 years where he served in various capacities including Director and Deputy Director of the Watershed Protection and Development Department.

He also served as Interim Assistant City Manager and holds a Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering from the University of Texas at Austin. He begins his new position as Assistant City Manager of San Marcos on Jan. 21.

Chase Stapp

Stapp had previously served as Chief of Police since 2014 and has worked for the City for more than 27 years. 

He will continue to oversee Police, Fire, Emergency Management, Municipal Court and Neighborhood Enhancement which includes the San Marcos Regional Animal Shelter.

In September 2019, Stapp began his role as Interim Director of Public Safety. He was permanently appointed to the position in December.
