Kristi Wyatt of League City, Texas, will bring her experience in broadcast journalism and government communications to San Marcos when she assumes her duties as the City’s new director of communications and intergovernmental relations on Jan. 12, 2015.
She will lead the City of San Marcos communications team and oversee the City’s website, social media, municipal cable channel, media relations, and community outreach while managing the City’s legislative affairs and federal relations.
“Kristi has a proven record of open and effective communication with citizens in a fast-growing city,” said City Manager Jared Miller. “We are excited about the opportunities we have in San Marcos to engage citizens and build community during a time of explosive growth and Kristi will play a key role in that process.”
Wyatt is a Texas native with more than 10 years of experience in journalism, public relations and local government communications. She served in League City for seven years, including more than four as the City’s director of communications. During that time, she and her staff won state awards for the City’s websites, as well as social media and marketing campaigns.
Wyatt has spoken at conferences for the International City/County Management Association and the Texas Association of Municipal Information Officers, and a case study of her work during an emergency weather situation was featured in American City and County Magazine. Wyatt and her League City team have also won multiple state awards for delivering high-quality communications programs and services at low cost.
“Over the last seven years, I’ve watched League City grow rapidly, and I’ve had the opportunity to work with professional and talented staff members to expand the communication services to meet the demands of a growing city,” Wyatt said. “I am honored to join the San Marcos team, and I look forward to partnering with the City staff to provide dynamic, creative, and comprehensive communications to residents and shape communication services to keep up with the needs of America’s fastest-growing city.”
Wyatt studied journalism at McNeese State University in Lake Charles, La., earning a Bachelor of Science Degree in Mass Communication with an emphasis in Broadcast Journalism. Her career experience also includes work as a television news reporter/producer in Lake Charles, La.; Tulsa, Okla.; and Houston.
