San Marcos’ Water Reuse System Expansion Topic Of January 6 Public Meeting

The City of San Marcos Engineering Department will hold a public meeting on January 6 at 6:30 PM at the San Marcos Activity Center, Room 1, 501 E Hopkins St. to discuss the city’s proposed project to expand the San Marcos Water Reuse System from the San Marcos Waste Water Treatment Plant to N. LBJ Drive.

City staff and consultants from Espey Consultants, Inc., doing business as RPS Group, Plc, will be on hand to discuss the project’s necessity and design, its potential environmental impacts, and possible alternatives.

The project includes extending the existing reclaimed water line to provide service to Texas State University, the addition of a pump to the existing reclaimed water pump station, and installing an earthen storage reservoir on property adjacent to the City’s wastewater treatment plant. A feasibility study for aquifer storage and recovery to determine future direct potable reuse is also included in the project scope.

The total estimated cost of the project is $3,772,800. The city has secured various funding sources for financial assistance for the project including Texas State University, the Edwards Aquifer Authority, and the Texas Water Development Board.

For citizens interested in learning more about the project before the meeting, an Environmental Information Document is available for public review at the San Marcos Public Library Reference Desk.

For more information about the public meeting, call the City of San Marcos Engineering Department at 512.393.8130 or email cip@sanmarcostx.gov.
