“The City and our Transportation team make safety a priority every day,” said Sabas Avila, Assistant Director of Public Services.

The City of San Marcos Public Services – Transportation Department received the 2018 Industry Leader Award from the National Safety Council (NSC) in recognition for their excellent safety performance within their industry.

The City’s Transportation Division is one of only sixty-four organizations nationwide that received the award. Winners are selected based on the North American Industry Classification System code, lowest total incidence rate and employee work hours.

“The City and our Transportation team make safety a priority every day,” said Sabas Avila, Assistant Director of Public Services. “We are thrilled to be recognized for this national award, and I commend our staff for their diligent efforts to maintain a safe work environment.”

The Industry Leader Awards are one component of the NSC Occupational Awards Program, which recognizes outstanding safety achievements of NSC members and represents the top five percent of member companies that have qualified for the NSC 2018 Occupational Excellence Achievement Award (based on 2017 calendar year data).

The City’s Transportation Division includes 46 employees across four groups:  Streets, Drainage, Traffic, and Inventory and they maintain 383 lane-miles of streets, 107 miles of storm water facilities, and 62 traffic signals.
