San Mercado To Return To San Marcos In August

San Marcos, TX – San Marcos’ only downtown, monthly, community market – the Price Center’s San Mercado – returns August 10 with an exciting array of new vendors, new art, and a special, free interactive Drumtastic session.

The monthly market is part of the new day-long Downtown Walkabout featuring a free and family-friendly line-up of activities taking place throughout the day on the second Saturday of each month.

This month’s activities also include Farmers Market 9-1; Art Squared from 9-4; Bubble Fest from 10 – noon; (all on the courthouse Square) and live music, art demonstrations and shows, and a variety of downtown merchants and eatery specials offered into the evening throughout downtown.

San Mercado activities take place in the Garden and throughout the various indoor venues of the Price Center from 9 a.m. – 4 p.m.  Fresh art shows, an ever-evolving variety of vendors, entertainment, and kid-friendly activities provide a great, culturally diverse time for all.  The Price Center also offers an assortment of drinks for $1 donations, including bottled water, coffee, and soft drinks.

Xander Saunders, a certified Drumtastic instructor will offer a free, 45-minute interactive Drumtastic session in the air-conditioned comfort of the 1910 Room at noon. The session is open to all and will use a variety of drums, buckets, and rhythm balls.

Drumtastic offers a unique group experience combining the benefits of traditional physical fitness with the added brain-fitness benefits of music and rhythm. The experience offers a fun and healthy balance of physical, emotional, and social engagement in a safe and creative environment.

Admission to San Mercado is free and open to all. The monthly market is made possible in part through grant funds from the San Marcos Arts Commission. Proceeds from booth rentals benefit the Price Center, which is operated by the Greater San Marcos Area Seniors Association (GSMASA), a 501 (c) 3 non-profit.
